Preschool - Head Start
BHK offers many preschool options to meet families’ unique needs (see below). Center activities take place at safe, licensed facilities throughout the Copper Country. 

PRESCHOOL OPTIONS
  Half-day for 4-year-olds

  • Three or four days a week throughout the school year
  • Nutritious meals and transportation provided
  • Half a day, either mornings or afternoons
  • Free to all families
Full-day for 3- to 5-year-olds
  • 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. year-round
  • Great for parents who work or go to school
  • Grants offset costs, resulting in low rates
Special options for 3-year-olds
  • Home-based option
  • Meet in a center one or more days a week for social interaction, group activities
  • Regular home visits to develop educational activities for children and parents
Preschool for children with special needs
  • Preschool programs are open to children with disabilities
  • Copper Country Intermediate School District and a variety of specialists assist the program
  • Inclusive environment leads to enhanced socialization and understanding among children

Pre-School Children

Numerous factors contribute to high-quality learning experiences for children in BHK programs, including:

  • based on the nationally recognized High/Scope early childhood curriculum
  • structured routines with special emphasis on learning to read
  • hands-on learning
  • individual and group time
  • frequent field trips to experience the outside world
  • qualified, caring staff
  • licensed facilities
  • safe transportation
  • nutritious meals and snacks
  • health screenings and wellness programs
Children with special needs take part in regular preschool activities through a unique program called Special Kids in Preschool (SKIP) operated with the Copper Country Intermediate School District.

Regular parent involvement is a key component of BHK programs. Parents often volunteer in the classroom, ride buses, serve on the Parent Council and take part in monthly parent meetings.
