Children with special needs take part
in regular preschool activities through a unique program
called Special Kids in Preschool (SKIP) operated with
the Copper Country Intermediate School District.
Numerous factors contribute to
high-quality learning experiences for children in BHK
programs, including:
- curriculum based on the nationally
recognized
High/Scope early childhood approach
- structured routines with special
emphasis on learning to read
- hands-on learning
- individual and group time
- frequent field trips to
experience the outside world
- qualified, caring staff
- licensed facilities
- safe transportation
- nutritious meals and snacks
- health screenings and wellness
programs
Regular parent involvement is a key
component of BHK programs. Parents have the opportunity
to volunteer in
the classroom, ride buses, serve on the Parent Council and
take part in monthly parent meetings.

Health and Developmental Screenings
for preschoolers give parents an assessment of their
child's general health. Screenings include a health
history review, physical exam, vision and hearing
assessment, immunizations and laboratory testing as age
appropriate. Each child's cognitive, motor and language
skills also are assessed by teachers and early childhood
specialists.
Family wellness services
provide fitness activities, support services and
information for families with preschoolers. Fitness
areas with cardiovascular, strength-training equipment
