Executive Director
The Baraga-Houghton-Keweenaw Child Development Board
seeks a strong, ambitious and creative leader to serve
as Executive Director. The successful candidate will be
responsible for the oversight and administration of an
$8.5 million non-profit human-services organization with
300-plus staff serving more than 1,700 families through
16 federal, state and privately funded programs at 30
locations in the western seven counties of the Upper
Peninsula of Michigan. Programs include Head Start,
Early Head Start, Even Start, Michigan School Readiness
Program, 0-3 Secondary Prevention, 21st Century
Community Learning Centers, AmeriCorps, USDA Food
Program, and several demonstration projects, including
father-involvement and family-wellness initiatives.
The ideal candidate will serve as both the Executive
Director and Head Start Director. He or she will embrace
the agency mission of strengthening and empowering
children and families through innovative and appropriate
services and will lead BHK’s client-focused approach to
service delivery while simultaneously promoting positive
communications and working relationships with families,
staff and the community. Principal duties include
general agency administration; supervision and
management of employees; program planning,
implementation, monitoring, evaluation and improvement;
financial management and budgeting; oversight of
facilities, vehicles, equipment and supplies; ensuring
compliance with federal and state requirements;
strategic planning; grant writing and fund-development;
and public relations.
The position requires extensive knowledge and experience
in non-profit management. Minimum requirements are a
Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Public
Administration, Early Childhood Education, Social Work
or a related field with a minimum of 5 years experience
directing a Head Start or similar human-service program.
Strong oral and written communication skills and
computer proficiency are required.
Salary will be commensurate with experience and

Toy Library Assistant
BHK Child Development Board has an opening for one
part-time (10-20 hours/week) Toy Library Assistant. This
individual should have a background in Early Childhood
Education or experience working in a library. The
successful candidate should be well-organized and have
strong communication skills.
System Administrator
BHK is seeking candidates for the position of System
Administrator to be a part of the Information Technology
department, providing hardware and software support for
servers and clients, and to develop, maintain and
continually improve secure and reliable technology
systems for staff, parents and children of BHK. The
successful candidate must have demonstrated ability and
experience supporting Windows and Mac OS client
computers. This person must have knowledge of Linux and
Windows servers, including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, IMAP, SQL
and Active Directory. This individual should have
familiarity with system/network security protocols
including SSH, firewall and VPN concepts. The right
candidate will have knowledge and experience in the
diagnostics and repair of computer hardware. Strong
communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
Respite/Sick Childcare Staff:
BHK Child Development Board is looking for on-call
childcare staff to provide childcare in a parent’s home
for short, temporary periods. Qualified candidates
should have experience working with children and must be
of good character. The respite staff will receive paid
training.

Childcare Positions/Sick and Respite:
BHK is looking for on-call respite/sick childcare staff. Qualified
candidates should have a flexible schedule and have experience working
with sick and/or disabled children.
After School Program Teachers:
BHK is seeking individuals to engage children in reading, science, math,
computers, art, recreation, crafts and history. Experience with elementary
through middle school aged children desirable. Staff will facilitate
exciting, hands-on learning and healthy fun in after school activities at
five local schools
Americorps
Make a difference right here in the UP by serving with
Superior AmeriCorps, America's "domestic Peace Corps."
The program serves seven Upper Peninsula counties:
Baraga, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw and
Ontonagon. Members serve in schools, childcare centers
and community agencies. In return for 1,744 hours of
service, members receive: $12,000 living allowance,
educational award, education loan forbearance, leave
