BHK Foundation
“To ensure quality early childhood education and family support by creating positive community involvement and by raising and distributing funds to support excellence and innovation in education.”

What is the BHK Foundation?
The BHK Foundation was formed in January of 2005 to support services for children and families provided by BHK Child Development Board. BHK currently serves more than 1,500 children and families through Head Start, preschool, childcare, adult education, family literacy, AmeriCorps, after-school and summer Great Explorations for school-age children and much more.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

The BHK Foundation is accepting applications for three $500 scholarships.
The scholarships will be awarded to seniors graduating from high schools serving Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw counties. Applicants must be alumni of a BHK Child Development Board program (Head Start, preschool, childcare, etc.).

Applications must be received by Thursday, May 1, 2008.

How will my gift help children?
Your gift will help children and families in many ways. The money you contribute will support critical activities that are not funded directly through grants. Examples include providing scholarships for children, updating technology and facilities to support a quality learning environment, and helping BHK plan and implement innovative programs that respond to pressing community needs.

Who decides how my gift is used?
You can either choose a specific area to support or you can let the Foundation’s independent Board direct your gift to where the need is greatest. The Foundation Board is initially allocating 50 percent of unrestricted gifts directly to BHK for planning and operational expenses and 50 percent to an endowment to support long-term sustainability of programs.

How may I make a gift?
Tax-deductible gifts may be made in several ways:

  • Checks may be sent directly to BHK Foundation, 700 Park Avenue, Houghton, Michigan 49931.
  • Planned gifts through estates, wills or trusts as well as donations of goods or services may be arranged by calling 482-3663 or 800-236-5657
