Where is Superior AmeriCorps located?

Superior AmeriCorps is located in the rugged western end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Members serve in Baraga, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties. The administrative offices of Superior AmeriCorps are located in B-H-K Child Development Board’s main office building at 700 Park Avenue in Houghton.

Where do members serve?

Members serve in preschools, local elementary, middle and high schools, and other area non-profit agencies. Member duties vary from site to site, but all members serve to meet our primary focus: education. Please visit the Service Sites page for examples of Superior AmeriCorps service sites.

What do members do?

  • School-based members tutor and mentor students who need support to
achieve school success. They also initiate safe, enriching after-school
    and summer youth programs.
  • Members in non-profit agencies expand and enhance mentoring and
educational enrichment programs serving young children and families and
recruit volunteers to assist with programming.
  • Members in preschool classrooms expand and enhance child-development
programs serving young children and families.
  • Members also coordinate youth service-learning programs and
community-wide service projects. These projects will enhance the capacity
of schools and agencies to meet critical community needs by promoting
collaboration, volunteerism and the ethic of service.
